Visualizing Redlining in the I.E.

Ethnic Studies Segregation

This map shows dot density maps for 5 racial groups (Black, Native American, White-Non-Hispanic, Hispanic & Asian ) for the years 1900-2020 for San Bernardino and Riverside Counties in California, so we can see how historic patterns of racial segregation and redlining changed over time. There are no existing federally produced HOLC redlining maps for the IE, but we no that systemic patterns of racial segregation in housing were common through the 1960s. We have chosen colors in these maps that echo those historic redlining maps so we can see white-non-Hispanic neighborhoods which were greenlined in federal and local bank lending practices and integrated Black, Mexican and White neighborhoods which were redlined.
